Author and TEDx speaker Charlene Lam, founder of Curating Grief®, will share how she uses the lens of curating and the tools of coaching to support grievers as part of a spectrum of care after major loss.
Topics will include:
- Why creative approaches like Curating Grief can be particularly helpful for grieving people, as an alternative or complement to therapy
- The roles belongings and tangible items can play, whether grieving individuals are dealing with physical possessions or the emotional “stuff”
- Ways she weaves in psychoeducation and contemporary grief theory in her work
- The importance of meeting individuals and communities where they are in their grief, within the scope of our roles as coaches and/or clinicians

Charlene Lam

Charlene Lam is a certified grief coach, TEDx speaker, and author of Curating Grief: A Creative Guide to Choosing What to Keep After a Loved One Dies. Her TEDx talk, “What Grief and Soy Sauce Taught Me About Life After Loss,” has been viewed more than 20,000 times.
After the sudden death of her mother, Charlene leaned into her creative instincts as a curator to navigate her own grief. That experience became the foundation for her work helping others find healing and connection through creativity and curation, and the development of her signature Curating Grief methodology.
Through her platform The Grief Gallery®, Charlene presents exhibitions featuring the belongings of loved ones lost, including installations in New York, London, and Los Angeles. A proud Chinese-American New Yorker like her mom, she is currently based in Lisbon, Portugal and works with clients worldwide.
